REACT refers to our motto of “Rethinking Valorization of Transformative Technologies”. Focusing on climate crisis, the biggest problem of humanity in 21st century, emergence of climate technologies appears in the center of all transformative technologies, presenting a rich opportunity with structural challenges. Hence, as TTGV, we have decided to start rethinking transformative technologies with a focus on climate technologies.
Many climate technologies depend on science-based laboratory work. Most projects with promising results in the laboratory hardly ever yield into a commercially viable product. In their essence, climate technologies challenge many of the existing technologies, and are often judged based on their commercial and technical performance merits. Moreover, markets expect these novel technologies to build at scale, which further complicates the commercialization process. The required scale and expertise result in a further complicated version of the classical and relatively straightforward VC approach that scales software-based technologies, which has been mainstream over the recent years. This observation leads us to the belief that commercialization of climate technologies is a demand side issue, as well as a supply side problem. The demand side aspect brings infrastructure investors to the table, in addition to the operators, as well as regulators. As TTGV, in recognition, we have decided to start a series of meetings which we hope will bring all the stakeholders around the table for the whole picture to emerge.
While we have launched the REACT series specifically focusing on climate technologies, in accordance with the current main focus of TTGV and because climate technologies are one of the most complex transformative technologies around, we are planning to expand our perspective to all transformative technologies and bring stakeholders with different perspectives together in the coming events. As TTGV has done since its foundation, we are aiming to once again rethink the current means of innovation with our community, react and touch our stakeholders in a unique way, and transform together.
